Insurance is changing.
Can your organization carry what comes next?

Growth. AI. Consolidation. Distribution. Succession. Each one puts new pressure on leaders, decisions, workflow and how work gets done.

The Art of Strategy works with Canadian carriers, brokerages, MGAs, networks and industry organizations to strengthen the leadership, decision-making and operating capability required to turn change into performance.

Knowing what needs to change is not the same as being able to make it happen

Canadian insurance is not short on knowledge, investment or ambition. The pressure appears when those priorities meet the day-to-day business..

  • AI changes work, judgment and how people learn.

  • Growth puts more pressure on leadership and decisions.

  • Consolidation creates integration and operating questions.

  • Succession exposes where knowledge and relationships sit too narrowly.

  • Broker development only matters if people use it afterward.

  • Strategy still has to survive the return to day-to-day operations.

That is the gap we work on: the distance between knowing what needs to happen and building the capability to make it happen.

The pressure looks different depending on where you sit

Carriers & Insurers

How do you make the broker investment you are already making work harder?

You already invest in broker education, events, distribution support and relationships. We help connect that investment to application, stronger broker capability and evidence of movement.

Brokerages, MGAs & Networks

The business grew. Did leadership capacity grow with it?

As the business grows, decisions, leadership and accountability cannot keep routing through the same few people. We help build the leadership depth, decision clarity and operating discipline required to scale.

Associations & Industry Bodies

What do members need to be able to do next?

Technical education builds knowledge. We help build what members need to do with it: lead, decide, apply, execute and put more of that learning to work back in the business.

What We Help Insurance Organizations Make Work

We do not start with a program. We start with what has to work.

Growth & Execution

Scale without making the owner, CEO or senior team the operating system. Clarify priorities, decisions, ownership and the rhythm required to run the business well.

Leadership & Management Capability

Build leaders and managers who can make decisions, create accountability, develop others and carry performance through people, not personal heroics.

Broker & Distribution Capability

Strengthen broker and distribution capability by connecting development to application, reinforcement, stronger businesses and stronger partnerships.

Transformation & Operating Capability

Make AI, technology, integration and strategic change executable by getting ownership, decisions, workflow and capacity clear.

Succession & Continuity

Move critical knowledge, relationships and judgment before they walk out the door.

The work follows the constraint. Not the other way around.

CARRIERS & INSURERS

Make the broker investment you are already making work harder.

Carriers already invest in broker education, events, distribution support, technology and relationships. The question is what changes in the brokerage because of that investment.

Where the Pressure Shows Up

  • Brokers participate, but application varies once they return to the business.

  • Development is valued, but it can be difficult to see what changed afterward.

  • Distribution relationships increasingly require more than product and technical support.

  • AI, growth and changing customer expectations are asking more of brokerage leaders than technical expertise alone can carry.

Where We Work

Broker capability

Build the leadership, decision-making and business capability that technical education was never designed to carry alone.

Learning application

Design for what happens after the academy, event or program, not only what happens inside it.

Distribution partnership

Use capability investment to strengthen the brokerage and the carrier-broker relationship around it.

Evidence of movement

Define what should be different afterward and look for evidence that the investment travelled.

How Work Might Begin

  • Carrier-sponsored broker leadership & business capability

  • Academy or development pathway

  • Conference or strategic event

  • Diagnostic of an existing development investment

  • Distribution or strategic-partner capability work

What should be different in the brokerage because you made the investment?

BROKERAGES, MGAs & NETWORKS

The business grew. Did leadership capacity grow with it?

As a brokerage grows, more people, decisions, locations, handoffs and complexity enter the business. Eventually, what worked when everything could run through a few strong people becomes the constraint.

Where We Work

Leadership depth

Move capability outward so performance does not depend on a handful of senior people.

Decision-making & accountability application

Clarify who owns what, where decisions belong and what leaders should carry without escalation.

Growth & execution

Build the operating rhythm required to turn priorities into coordinated action.

Integration & scale

Create enough consistency to scale without stripping away the autonomy that makes the business work.

Succession & continuity

Transfer judgment, relationships and institutional knowledge before the vacancy creates the problem.

Where the Pressure Shows Up

  • Too many decisions still rise to the owner or senior team.

  • Strong people compensate for unclear roles, weak systems or missing accountability.Managers are technically strong, but the role is now asking them to lead at a different level.

  • Growth, integration or succession is moving faster than the business underneath it.

How Work Might Begin

  • Growth & capability diagnostic

  • Leadership-team calibration

  • Manager capability

  • Operating model & execution

  • Succession, integration or transformation

The owner cannot remain the operating system of a growing brokerage.

Growth is not only a sales question. It is a capability question.

ASSOCIATIONS & INDUSTRY BODIES

What do members need to be able to do next?

Technical education is foundational. But brokerage owners, managers and emerging leaders are also being asked to lead people, navigate change, make decisions, adopt technology and operate increasingly complex businesses..

Where the Pressure Shows Up

  • Members want development they can use back in the business.

  • Technical expertise does not automatically prepare someone to lead others.

  • Events create energy, but the real test begins when people return to work.

  • Repeated member challenges can reveal where new leadership, business and operating capability is needed.

Where We Work

Leadership & manager capability

Complement technical education with practical leadership and management capability people can apply in real brokerage environments.

Application beyond the room

Design conferences, sessions and development so something survives Monday morning.

Owner & business capability

Help brokerage leaders strengthen decision-making, accountability, growth and execution.

Industry intelligence

Identify repeated barriers and capability needs that can shape future member programming, research and industry priorities.

How Work Might Begin

  • Conference session or keynote

  • Leadership or owner capability series

  • Member diagnostic

  • Applied learning pathway

  • Qualitative listening or research

  • Member capability gap conversation

Education builds the profession. Capability helps people operate inside it.

If capability moves, the evidence should move with it.

We look beyond attendance and satisfaction. Where it makes sense, we track what changed in application, leadership, relationships and business performance.

This is not generic leadership work dropped into insurance.

Our work in Canadian insurance has spanned commercial growth and distribution, broker and leader capability, enterprise strategy and execution, transformation, operating architecture and carrier-broker partnership activation.

That matters because a training problem, a leadership problem and an operating problem are not the same problem.

Strategy. People. Performance. Together.

Leadership work often starts with development. Strategy work often stops at the plan. The Art of Strategy works on what has to become true inside the organization for strategy, development or change to hold in the real business.

The goal is not dependence on an advisor. The goal is capability inside the business.

  • MAP IT.
Start with the outcome. See what is actually happening and what is getting in the way.

  • BUILD IT.
Build only the leadership, decision, people and operating capability the outcome requires.

  • HOLD IT.
Reinforce the work in the real business and look for evidence that it survives.

Studying what Canadian brokerages will need next

The Art of Strategy is developing the Canadian Broker Capability Pulse, independent research into what is getting harder to carry inside Canadian brokerages and what leaders will need to be able to do next.

We will shape the questions with people across the industry before we field the study. The research will look at growth, leadership capacity, learning transfer, AI and technology, consolidation and ownership, and what brokers need from industry partners beyond technical education.

Independent research by The Art of Strategy.

What does your organization need to be able to do next?

If growth, transformation, distribution or leadership is asking more of the business than the business can currently carry, that is where we start.
